“This guide is a map to get you from Point A to Point B, where Point A is your problem and Point B is any number of new and exciting solutions. The Charette is your journey and we believe that when you build your map collaboratively, when you invite as many friends with unique perspectives as you can, and when you figure out the destination while on the road together, not only will you be the most satisfied with where you end up, but so will the community you’ve built around you along the way.”

The four modules are a rapid, condensation of the design-thinking framework. Each of the modules serve a specific purpose during your design charette and must happen sequentially, though it is not necessary for your charette to utilize all four.

Say you’re going on a road trip: the Research Phase is you determining why and where you want to go on your trip. Who do you want to bring along and what do they want out of the trip? The Plan Phase is you and your friends packing, writing up itineraries, and determining trip roles. Who will be the driver? Who will man the AUX cord? Which car are you taking? The Event Phase is you hitting the road; you and your friends leave Point A and this journey is you all figuring out Point B together. The Implement Phase is once you get there. You’ve made it to your destination, so now what? Who will you meet up with once you get there? What will you do once you’re there?
